It isn't about safety. It's about the lockstep plan for global control. The creep is hastening to a quick trot. Soon it'll be galloping. If it were really about safety they'd have banned all that violence kids are now used to via online games and videos long ago. They're now fully desensitized. They just want you to volunteer the rest of your biometrics to complete the grip. In the Spinoff article below the decision for NZ, National's put off for now. It's how they do it folks. It's called 'gradualism'. First suggest it. Then wait a bit. Then when all have forgotten it ... back it comes, done deal, and you weren't even asked. Watch this space. TWNZ
The world’s social media bans and NZ’s plans explained
National is ‘aiming to introduce legislation’ to tackle digital harm and wants to get it over the line before the election. But it’s been a winding road to get here.
OK, where are we at with this ban business?
National has been exploring social media legislation for the past 14 months. The Social Media (Age-Restricted Users) Bill was put forward by National MP Catherine Wedd in May, 2025 (aka forever ago in internet years), but it was later put “on hold”.

Remember....
The oligarchs’ primary front organisation are national governments
A functional oligarchy is where economic elites and organised business groups have significant influence on government policy, while average citizens have little to no independent influence.
As Iain Davis explains, many countries, whether they are capitalist or communist, are now “governed” by a functional oligarchy, the same oligarchy. This is the One World Government.

Finally, Voices For Freedom weigh in:
Yesterday's reports that National has been considering restrictions on VPNs as part of its proposed under-16 social media ban have put digital ID back in the spotlight.
Good.
We need to be having this conversation in public, and I'll take every opportunity we get to debate these issues and bang my pot.
The more people see the political fireworks, follow the conversations unfolding in social media comment sections and think critically about where these proposals lead, the more informed they become and the more likely they are to stand against them in the future.
If you've been with VFF for a while, you'll know this issue has been on our radar for a long time. We've been talking about digital identity, surveillance and the growing digital control infrastructure for almost five years.
Of course, we all want children to be safe online.
The question is how we get there.
If a policy can only be enforced by building more invasive systems to identify people online, verify their age, restrict privacy tools or control access to the internet, then we need to stop pretending it has anything to do with keeping children “safe”.
Whether VPN restrictions ever become law is almost beside the point. The discussion itself has revealed the practical difficulties of enforcing these kinds of policies without cranking up online identity verification and access controls. Australia, anyone?
That's why this issue sits right near the top of our priority list.
Yesterday afternoon, RCR released a press statement setting out our position and the bigger picture behind the headlines.

Pressure and persistence pay off
For over five years, we've seen ordinary Kiwis, armed with good information and the courage to speak up, change the conversation and make a difference over and over again.
At VFF and RCR, we do everything we can to make these issues understandable, accessible and easy to share. The research, interviews, articles, cartoons, clips and campaigns are all designed to give people the confidence to help others understand what's at stake and the inspiration to join us in standing up for our rights and freedoms.
Prime Minister Christopher Luxon says National will "die trying" to introduce this policy...
Well, we're not going anywhere either, Buddy.
We'll keep digging, asking the difficult questions, shining a light on the bigger picture, and rallying people together to push back against freedom-destroying policies.
Yesterday's news has only added more fuel to the fire in my belly on this issue.
GAME ON!
